Wellness Wakeup:
Empowering Messages for Morning Announcements
An Easy Way to Fulfill Nutrition Education Goals as Mandated by Local Wellness Policies

The New York Coalition for Healthy School Foods is very excited to introduce Wellness Wakeup! Empowering Messages for Morning Announcements. This program provides an easy and free (for NYS schools, small fee for others) way to fulfill nutrition education goals for your Local Wellness Policies. The program will consist of nutrition messages that are very brief, to be read on the morning announcements at school. The messages will build on one or more themes over the course of a month. The program is available in two versions: K – 5, and 6 – 12. Over the course of a year, topics will include good nutrition, prevention of diseases, healthy snack and meal ideas, information on the food industry, and more. The program will begin in March, in celebration of National Nutrition Month. A school can start the program at any time. Each school district will be asked to enter basic contact information so we can keep track of how many schools are using our program.

Sample messages:
Grades K – 5 example: Good morning, this is your Wellness Wakeup Call! Our bodies are actually made from the foods we eat! That’s right, our foods make up the cells in our bodies. Enjoy your day, the healthy way.

Grades 6 – 12 example: Good morning, this is your Wellness Wakeup Call! Did you know that you’d have to walk 5 ½ miles to work off the calories in a medium order of fries? That’s not even taking into account the rest of the meal! Enjoy your day, the healthy way!
